The dried, tubular, funnel-shaped at the top, whole or ground stigma from the blooms, also known in layman's terms as filaments, are used as seasoning.
Taste
Saffron has a very intensive smell that is similar to iodine (iodoform), and a spicy, mildly bitter taste. If you soak saffron in warm water, you are left with a pleasant-smelling, shiny orange solution.
