Spice labelling
The dried fruits and the leaves are used as seasoning; the fresh leaves are used primarily in Asia. Due to the different aromas, the fruits and the leaves are used in various ways in cooking, and cannot be substituted.
Taste
The aroma of the fruits is warm, nutty and spicy. The herb, the roots and the unripe fruits all have a very strong smell which takes some getting used to -- especially for the European nose; and is reminiscent of soap.
