Spice labelling
The fruits (botanical berries) are used as seasoning. The seeds and septa are removed for a milder and more strongly coloured product. Any extra plant parts are partly added to cheaper and primarily hotter varieties.
Taste
Almost odourless; however, depending on the variety, they have a mild, fruity-sweet to burning, spicy-hot taste. The most common terms for the level of hotness are in ascending order: delicate, sweet, hot and spicy/hot.
